01 · Design fees
How much does a garden designer cost in the UK?
Published UK figures run from 8 to 20 percent of build cost. On a £40,000 garden that is roughly £3,200 to £8,000; hourly work is quoted at £50 to £200.
Source limitation
There is no disinterested source: no Which? report, trade-body survey or official dataset. Every figure comes from a paid directory or a design practice publishing its own prices.

Why we did not average these figures
The endpoints differ by two and a half times on the same build. An average would invent a number none of the sources supports. The only point of agreement is the direction: the percentage falls as the build cost rises.
